let me introduce myself

I am Jennifer Van Rossum – Psychotherapist, Educator and Consultant

Welcome! I am so glad you are here because it means you're curious, and curiosity is a strength that is foundational to your well-being.

I have studied the human mind and behavior for over two decades, trained under national experts and helped countless people obtain optimal health and healing - I know a thing or two about what it takes to live well. Perhaps, most importantly, I’ve lived a full life myself and intimately understand that “being human takes practice”.

I can’t wait to join you on your adventure to living a skillful, integrated and wholehearted life with intention. Get ready to flourish!

How are you?

When was the last time you honestly answered that question?

In our work together, my job is to hold the space for the real you; to create opportunities for you to uncover who you are and investigate what you want to keep and what you want to change. My goal is to help you learn and grow from the hard and good things so that you can flourish; where you cultivate insight, awareness, purpose, connection, and embody a healthy/integrated self – we do that by shining a light of focused attention on what is helpful, healing and real along with honoring what is difficult.  This shared space is a place for you to discover who you are behind the mask of “having it all together” – the you under the stress of your wonderfully full life.

And it is a wonderfully full life. I approach mental health from a positive and resilient- based perspective that’s grounded in science, hope and realistic thinking. Suffering is a part of life…and so is joy. We will explore what is difficult by leaning into vulnerability so you can build emotional agility to help you climb to higher ground and feel capable when challenges arise. We will also practice tuning into what is good (within you and around you) by strengthening your inner resources of resilience so that you can be your best possible self when life is going well – this is essential to well-being and often a profound life changing experience.

Working with me is kind of like going to the gym – a gym for your (embodied) brain and the whole you. It’s hard work, but it pays off.

Frequently Asked Questions

In case you were wondering, here are some answers to frequently asked questions.

  • What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Psychoeducation?

    Psychotherapy involves a therapeutic relationship in which we take a deep dive into your history and life story where I provide psychological treatment and interventions to address mental health symptoms and conditions. When we work together in a Psychoeducation service, you are consulting with a seasoned credentialed Psychotherapist who provides training-based wellness education to help you cultivate resilience. This is NOT a therapeutic relationship and I will not be providing therapy.

  • Are you a Life Coach?

    No, I am not a Life Coach. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who provides Consultation and Psychoeducation. If you are seeking a Life Coach please make sure you are working with a Certified Life Coach to ensure that he/she has received the proper training.

  • Do you provide virtual and in-person services?

    Yes. I provide virtual TeleMental Health or Consultation via secure online portals. I also see clients in the office or on location. I am licensed to provide psychotherapy to residents of WI only. Psychoeducation services are not limited to your place of residence.

  • Do you accept insurance?

    I am considered an out-of-network provider with most insurance plans. I do understand that accessibility is an important factor when seeking services and so I am an in-network provider with a limited number of insurance carriers. While insurance can lower the cost of services, it also dictates crucial parts of the process like how often you can come to therapy, how long therapy can last, and even what we focus on in the therapy hour. Therefore, most psychotherapy services and all other services are offered at self-pay rates.
